Where do you belong?

"I am a stranger here, I don’t fit in, I’m out of place..." these are lyrics from a rather great song*. The words may well resonate with you. Why? Because either you’re a Christian or you’re not.

If you are a Christian it means you are living in a world that rejected and despised Jesus (John 15v18,19), so it will treat you the same. As a Christian your home is in Heaven with God (Ephesians 2v6). In this world you are a stranger and you shouldn’t mix easily with the things and ways of this world.

If you are not a Christian there is a gaping hole in your life where God should be. We were made to know Him, whether we like and accept that or not. Not having a relationship with our creator means we can’t really know ourselves. Therefore, we can try to find meaning, assurance and identity in all kinds of different things, but nothing fits right until we find God.

So, are we lost either way?!

No, the good news is that Christians get the next line of the song, "I am a citizen of Heaven and it’s obvious to me, that I belong with you [God]."

Which means we are either…

  • lost and without God
  • With God in a strange world, but with the eternal hope, joy and promise of Heaven.

Some times in this crazy world, knowing that God is good and that we’ll be with Him in glory is all that keeps you going. NB – read the bible to the end, it’s one of the things that Revelation is trying to say, God’s going to work it all out, for good. It’s a certain thing, just trust in Him.

Where do you belong? If you’re a Christian, kick-back and thank God for His provision and promises. Cling tight to the certainty of His will and love if you are in difficult times; He has your back and will not let you down. If you’re not a Christian, what are you going to do about it? I suggest you acknowledge the truth. You belong with God. Thank Him that He has given you the opportunity to be with Him, through Jesus. Tell Him you need Him and ask for His help. Trust me, He’ll listen and you’ll find where you truly belong.
