Monthly Thought
November 2006
Life is fragile - thoughts are heavy - Pat's (my lovely husband's)
dad has died today - suddenly - 64 - not young, but not old enough.
My thoughts are turning round the things he has done with his life
and what he hasn't had the chance to do and most importantly where
was he with God. I know he had great plans for when he was going to
retire next year. We didn't visit this year cause they wanted to have
more time to spend and next year would have been the time. While
Pat's parents are English, they moved to Spain about 10 years ago
and we don't get to see each other very often. Missed opportunities?
Unsaid things? Makes me think about the importance of what we do
today, say today, decisions made today. Don't know if any of you have
ever read a book called "The Screwtape Letters" by CS Lewis. It's
written very interestingly from the devil's point of view, trying to
keep people away from God and what tricks he might use to do so.
There is a chapter on living: do we live in the past? the future?
or the present?
The past - has been and gone and while we can learn things and try
and not make the same mistakes again, the past cannot be changed.
Wrongdoing needs forgiveness, but then we need to move on.
The future - it's great to have plans and dreams for the future.
Decisions we make today may have a great affect on the future,
but if things are always pushed into the future we might miss the
boat, might not get to say the "I love you", "you are great",
"God cares for you as well, you know", "I'm really sorry",
"please forgive me", "yep God, I wanna be one of your kids"
and so on.
The present - is where it's at - we can impact today - that's why
today is of greatest importance. What we think and do today counts.
We can make a difference today, make someone's day today, sort
something out today, make that decision today, just give it our
absolute best today.
Let's make today a day that will count and glorify God :)
Live for today in the light of eternity!
