Monthly Thought
August 2006
Returned from camp and finding one thought at this moment is a tricky
task. Camp was just brilliant, it's amazing how much can happen in so
short a time. In one way you just want it to carry on and stay there
forever, but then, what would our world, like the places we live and
the people we hang out with when not on camp, be without us? There
would be a gap, something missing, because each one of us is unique
and special and precious and we make an impact one way or another
where we are.
I think one of the amazing and fantastic things about camp is the
thoughts it provokes in us and the reassessing of our relationship
with God. Or maybe we come round to asking basic stuff like: "why am
I here?", "what is my life all about?", "does God exist?", "how did
the world come into being?", "who made God?", "what proof do you
have that God exists?", "how could Jesus die for the likes of me?",
"why was that sacrifice necessary?", "what happens after people
die?", "why do I need God in my life?", questions and more questions!
It is very clear to me that there are way more questions than I have
answers.
However, the thought that was with me through most of the week was
the fact that it is not the fear of hell that brings us to God, but
God's goodness and His love. GOD IS AMAZING! He loves us like nobody
else will or can. There is nothing that can separate us from his
love. There is this scripture in 1 John (1 John 3:1 and keep reading,
it's an awesome passage) which talks about God lavishing his love on
us. God doesn't just sprinkle us with a little bit of his love, or
gives a dollop or even a bucket full in water fight style, he showers
us with his love. His love is generous, it's abundant, it's
unchanging, it's sure, it's unconditional, it's amazing, it's not:
"here today and gone tomorrow", because God has a grumpy day and
can't be bothered. God is not like us people, we don't always make
the right and best choice when it comes to supporting one another
and being there for each other. Even when we try really hard we
might let people down. Not so with God - He is faithful, consistent
and always interested in what is going on in our lives and never too
tired or bored to listen to us. He is our loving heavenly Father who
has given His son Jesus for us, so we can be His children - how great
is His love for us!!!
God loves us, whatever our background, colour, age ... - love
this e-card just because of that.
